Σεισμός μεγέθους 8 βαθμών της κλίμακας Ρίχτερ έπληξε την Παπούα Νέα Γουινέα, ενώ έχουν εκδοθεί προειδοποιήσεις για την πρόκληση τσουνάμι από το Κέντρο Προειδοποίησης του Ειρηνικού αλλά και την Υπηρεσία Πολιτικής Προστασίας της Νέας Ζηλανδίας.
«Συνεχίζουμε να αξιολογούμε την κατάσταση, στη φάση αυτή συμβουλεύουμε όλους τους κατοίκους της Νέας Ζηλανδίας να παραμείνουν μακριά από τις ακτές, μακριά από τη θάλασσα, και να παρακολουθούν ραδιόφωνο και τηλεόραση. Στη φάση αυτή, η προειδοποίηση αφορά όλη την επικράτεια της Νέας Ζηλανδίας», τόνισε εκπρόσωπος της Πολιτικής Προστασίας.
