Χιλιάδες δηλητηριώδεις αράχνες κατέστρεψαν τη γιορτή των κατοίκων της ινδικής πόλης Σάντια στο κρατίδιο Ασάμ. Τα μεγάλα αρθρόποδα γέμισαν ξαφνικά την πλατεία της πόλης, όπου οι άνθρωποι γιόρταζαν την τοπική γιορτή.
Οι αράχνες άρχισαν να δαγκώνουν τους κατοίκους με αποτέλεσμα να δηλητηριαστούν εκατοντάδες και δύο να πεθάνουν από τα δηλητηριώδη τσιμπήματα. Το πλήθος πανικοβλήθηκε, οι άνθρωποι άρχισαν να τρέχουν προς όλες τις κατευθύνσεις, γεγονός που προκάλεσε και ποδοπατήματα.
Πάντως οι γιατροί της τοπικής κλινικής αντιμετώπισαν πρόβλημα: κανείς από τους ειδικούς βιολόγους δεν μπόρεσε με ακρίβεια να διαπιστώσει το είδος των επιτιθέμενων στην πόλη αραχνών και εξαιτίας αυτού ήταν ασαφές τί είδους αντίδοτο θα πρέπει να χρησιμοποιηθεί. Οι αραχνολόγοι επίσης δεν μπορούν να εξηγήσουν γιατί τα αρθρόποδα σχημάτισαν ένα τεράστιο σμήνος και όρμησαν στην πόλη.
