Χακτιβιστές της ομάδας Russian Cyber Command (Rucyborg) κατάφεραν να παραβιάσουν το δίκτυο της πρεσβείας της Κίνας στη Μόσχα, διαρρέοντας έγγραφα που αποδεικνύουν ότι η Κίνα παρείχε εξοπλισμό με backdoors στην Ρωσική εταιρεία παραγωγής αλουμινίου Rusal. Η Rusal διοχέτευε με τη σειρά της τον εξοπλισμό στην Altron, μια ουκρανική εταιρία ανάπτυξης συστημάτων ασφάλειας και τηλεπικοινωνιών, η οποία έχει συνεργαστεί με πολλαπλές κυβερνητικές υπηρεσίες και εταιρείες υψηλού προφίλ της Ουκρανίας.
Η Αltron φέρεται πως εγκατέστησε τον εξοπλισμό στις υποδομές της εταιρείας τηλεπικοινωνιών Intertelecom’s, με σκοπό την παρακολούθηση των δραστηριοτήτων της.
Οι hackers ισχυρίζονται ότι ο Viktor Yanukovych, ο πρώην πρόεδρος της Ουκρανίας, και ο Nikolay Malomuzh, ο πρώην επικεφαλής της υπηρεσίας πληροφοριών της Ουκρανίας, συνεργάστηκαν με την ρωσία για τη συγκεκριμένη επιχείρηση κατασκοπείας.
Οι χακτιβιστές δημοσίευσαν αρχεία και σαρωμένα έγγραφα στο Imgur που περιλαμβάνουν πληροφορίες σχετικά με τις υποδομές της Intertelecom, καθώς και λεπτομέρειες για 100.000 πελάτες, τις οποίες υπέκλεψαν από την κινεζική πρεσβεία με τη βοήθεια ενός Remote Access Trojan (RAT), το οποίο εγκατέστησαν με τη βοήθεια spear phishing emails.
