Συζητώντας για φρέσκα λαχανικά αλλά και για είδη καλλιεργειών,δύο αγαπημένοι φίλοι από τη Βρετανία κατάφεραν να καλλιεργήσουν ολόφρεσκα βότανα και καταπράσινα λαχανικά πολύ κάτω από τη Γη!
Ο λόγος για τους Richard Ballard και Steven Dring που δημιούργησαν τον πρώτο υπόγειο λαχανόκηπο στο νότιο Λονδίνο και παράγουν εδώ και 18 μήνες λαχανικά και βότανα.
Σε συνθήκες σταθερής θερμοκρασίας 16 βαθμών, με τη βόθεια λαμπτήρων LED και ειδικό σύστημα υδροπονίας, οι δύο επιχειρηματίες καλλιεργούν μπρόκολα, λάχανα, ραπανάκια, βασιλικό, σκόρδα,κρεμμύδια και άλλα εκμεταλλευόμενοι με τον καλύτερο τρόπο τα καταφύγια του Β΄Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου.
Τριάντα μέτρα κάτω από τη γη έχουν στήσει οι δύο φίλοι τη φάρμα τους και με την επωνυμία «Υπόγεια καλλιέργεια» ετοιμάζονται να ρίξουν από τον Μάρτιο και μετά την πρώτη τους σοδειά στην αγορά με λαχταριστά ολόφρεσκα λαχανικά.
Τα υπόγεια καταφύγια του Clapham North, ακριβώς κάτω από τον σταθμό του μετρό, ολοκληρώθηκαν το 1942 και άνοιξαν για το κοινό τον Ιούλιο του 1944, βρίσκοντας σήμερα έναν άλλον τρόπο χρήσης.
