Ένας Ισπανός ιερέας και γιατρός που προσβλήθηκε από τον ιό Έμπολα και επαναπατρίστηκε από τη Σιέρα Λεόνε, όπου διοικούσε ένα νοσοκομείο, πέθανε σήμερα σε νοσοκομείο της Μαδρίτης, όπως ανακοίνωσαν ιατρικές πηγές.
Ο Μανουέλ Γκαρσία Βιέχο, 69 ετών, «πέθανε στις 17:55 (τοπική ώρα 18:55 ώρα Ελλάδας)», δήλωσε μια εκπρόσωπος του νοσοκομείου Λας Πας-Κάρολος Γ’, όπου νοσηλευόταν.
Μόλις έφτασε στη Μαδρίτη ο Βιέχο οι γιατροί είχαν επισημάνει ότι δεν μπορεί να λάβει το πειραματικό φάρμακο ZMapp, καθώς τα αποθέματά του έχουν εξαντληθεί παγκοσμίως.
Τον Αύγουστο, ένας άλλος ισπανός ιερέας ο Μιγκέλ Παχάρες, 75 ετών, ήταν ο πρώτος Ευρωπαίος που προσβλήθηκε από τον ιό Έμπολα στη Λιβερία. Αν και του χορηγήθηκε το ZMapp, απεβίωσε μερικές ημέρες αφότου διακομίστηκε σε νοσοκομείο της Ισπανίας.
