Το σήμα ντοκουμέντο που δημοσιεύουμε είναι από τον Αρχηγό ΓΕΝ αντιναύαρχο Γιάννη Στάγκα. Ξημερώματα 31ης Ιανουαρίου 1996. Ώρα 2.04 το πρωί. Ο τότε Αρχηγός μη γνωρίζοντας προφανώς το “παιχνίδι” που εκείνη την ώρα παιζόταν σε πολιτικό επίπεδο έκρινε σκόπιμο να στείλει αυτό το σήμα προς όλες τις μονάδες του Στόλου που βρίσκονταν στο Αιγαίο και γύρω από τα Ίμια. Η στοχοποίηση του τουρκικού στόλου είχε ολοκληρωθεί! Όλα και όλοι ήταν έτοιμοι γι΄ αυτό που έμοιαζε αναπόφευκτο.
Έγραφε στο σήμα του ο Στάγκας:
“Είμαι απόλυτα βέβαιος ότι αν χρειαστεί όλοι σας θα φανείτε αντάξιοι της ενδοξου ιστορίας του ΠΝ.
Καλή τύχη και ο Θεός Μαζί σας”.
