Στην κατηγορία 2Β των «ενδεχομένως καρκινογόνων για τον άνθρωπο» παραγόντων κατετάγη, την περασμένη άνοιξη, η ακτινοβολία ραδιοσυχνοτήτων (ειδικότερα των κινητών τηλεφώνων) από την IARC, η οποία είναι η Διεθνής Επιτροπή Ερευνας για τον Καρκίνο και ταξινομεί όλους τους παράγοντες έκθεσης (χημικούς, φυσικούς, βιολογικούς) σε κατηγορίες, ανάλογα με τη δυνατότητά τους για καρκινογένεση.
Στην ίδια κατηγορία 2Β κατατάσσονται μαζί με τα ηλεκτρομαγνητικά πεδία χαμηλών συχνοτήτων και ραδιοσυχνοτήτων διάφοροι άλλοι παράγοντες, όπως η ναφθαλίνη ή η βενζίνη, αλλά και τα τουρσιά λαχανικών και ο καφές.
