Οι ηγέτες της Επιτροπής Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων της αμερικανικής Γερουσίας, ανέφεραν την Τρίτη ότι κατέληξαν σε σχέδιο συμφωνίας, το οποίο παρέχει την άδεια στον αμερικανό πρόεδρο Μπαράκ Ομπάμα, να κάνει χρήση στρατιωτικής ισχύος κατά της Συρίας.
Μεταξύ άλλων διατάξεων, το σχέδιο που συμφωνήθηκε στην Επιτροπή Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων, και το οποίο ήρθε στην κατοχή του πρακτορείου Ρόιτερς, θέτει όριο 60 ημερών για στρατιωτική δράση στη Συρία, με δυνατότητα χρονικής επιμήκυνσης μόνο για 30 ημέρες και αυτό υπό προϋποθέσεις.
Το σχέδιο περιλαμβάνει επίσης μια διάταξη που απαγορεύει οποιαδήποτε ενέργεια των αμερικανικών ενόπλων δυνάμεων στο έδαφος της Συρίας. Το σχέδιο αναμένεται να ψηφιστεί από την επιτροπή την Τετάρτη. Εάν εγκριθεί από την επιτροπή, θα πρέπει να αποσταλεί στην Γερουσία για ψηφοφορία στις 9 Σεπτεμβρίου
