Μία κατασκευαστική εταιρία στο Belize της Αμερικής κατέστρεψε μία από τις μεγαλύτερες πυραμίδες των Μάγιας στη χώρα, απλά για να… ανοίξει δρόμο!
Η επικεφαλής του Ινστιτούτου Αρχαιολογίας της χώρας, Jaime Awe, είπε ότι ο ναός Noh Mul καταστράφηκε σχεδόν ολοκληρωτικά από μία κατασκευαστική εταιρία με σκοπό να επεκτείνει το οδικό δίκτυο της περιοχής και να το επιστρώσει με τα υλικά της πυραμίδας!
Ο ναός των Μάγιας εκτιμάται ότι είχε κατασκευαστεί πριν από 2.300 χρόνια, ενώ αποτελούσε μία από τις ιστορικότερες και μεγαλύτερες πυραμίδες της ευρύτερης περιοχής.
Οι αρχές τώρα προσπαθούν να ερευνήσουν την υπόθεση, ωστόσο, η καταστροφή ενός αρχαίου ναού δεν είναι κάτι που σημειώνεται για πρώτη φορά στη χώρα.
«Είναι απίστευτο το γεγονός ότι κάποιοι καταστρέφουν, χωρίς να υπολογίζουν τίποτα, τόσο μεγάλης σημασίας κτίσματα. Προφανώς δε γνώριζαν ότι επρόκειτο για ναό των Μάγιας», δήλωσε ο Dr John Morris του Ινστιτούτου Αρχαιολογίας του Belize.
Οι εισαγγελείς, τώρα, σκέφτονται να φέρουν ποινικές διώξεις κατά της κατασκευαστικής εταιρίας.
