Το φιάσκο με το κρέας αλόγου στην Ευρώπη έχει ωθήσει τους επιστήμονες να κοιτάξουν λίγο βαθύτερα σε αυτά που καταναλώνουμε. Μια ομάδα επιστημόνων της Νότιας Αφρικής ανακάλυψαν ίχνη ανθρώπινου ιστού σε κρέας που προοριζόταν για δημόσια κατανάλωση σε 9 επαρχίες.
Το θέμα αποκαλύφθηκε στο κοινοβούλιο, σχεδόν ως δευτερεύουσα σημείωση, κατά τη διάρκεια των ενημερώσεων της επιθεώρησης κρέατος την Τρίτη. Ένας επιστήμονας και η ομάδα του απο το Πανεπιστήμιο του Stellenbosch, πραγματοποίησαν μια μικροβιακή ανάλυση που αποκάλυψαν ίχνη ανθρώπινου στοιχείου.
Τα γενικά συμπεράσματα είναι ότι οι καταναλωτές δεν έχουν απολύτως καμία ιδέα για το τι τρώνε – συμπεριλαμβανομένων των ανθρώπινων υπολειμμάτων – στο 85% των προϊόντων. “Είναι πιθανό ότι (εάν κάνουμε δοκιμές) θα μπορούσαμε να βρούμε ίχνη ανθρώπινου DNA στο κρέας. Εντούτοις, ακόμα κι αν βρίσκουμε ανθρώπινο DNA, δεν σημαίνει ότι τρώμε και ανθρώπινη σάρκα.»
