Θλίψη στην τοπική κοινωνία έχει προκαλέσει η είδηση του θανάτου ενός 57χρονου από τη Ζάκυνθο, ο οποίος, όπως διαπιστώθηκε, πέθανε από λεπτοσπείρωση, μετά από 15νθημερη νοσηλεία στη ΜΕΘ του Γενικού Νοσοκομείου Ζακύνθου.
Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες του imerazante.gr, ο άνδρας εισήχθη στο νοσοκομείο στις αρχές του μήνα (2/1) και έπειτα από εξειδικευμένες εξετάσεις στις οποίες υπεβλήθη κατά την εισαγωγή του στη ΜΕΘ διαπιστώθηκε ότι είχε λεπτοσπείρωση. Στη συνέχεια διασωληνώθηκε.
Δυστυχώς, όμως, μετά από μάχη που έδωσε για δύο εβδομάδες, δεν τα κατάφερε να κρατηθεί στη ζωή και απεβίωσε την Τρίτη 17 Γενάρη.
Όπως προβλέπεται, για το περιστατικό έχει ήδη ενημερωθεί ο ΕΟΔΥ που θα δώσει τις κατευθύνσεις για την διαχείρισή του, ενώ είναι πολύ πιθανό να γίνουν έλεγχοι στο νησί τις επόμενες ώρες.
Η λεπτοσπείρωση είναι μικροβιακή λοίμωξη η οποία παρατηρείται σε ανθρώπους και ζώα και προκαλείται από τον μικροοργανισμό που ονομάζεται λεπτόσπειρα (Leptospira spp). Το υγρό περιβάλλον και η παρουσία οργανικών υλικών συντελούν στην παρατεταμένη επιβίωση του μικροβίου.
