Κατά την διάρκεια της Κοινής συνέντευξης Τύπου με τον Αχμέτ Νταβούτογλου, μετά τις υπογραφές για τις διακρατικές συμφωνίες Ελλάδας – Τουρκίας, πήρε τον λόγο μετά τον “φίλο Αχμέτ” έτσι λέει πια χαϊδευτικά τον Νατβούτογλουκαι τον ευχαρίστησε για την φιλοξενία. Και για να του κάνει ένα δώρο αποενοχοποίσησε το εγκληματικό ρόλο της Τουρκίας για την Σφαγή του ’22.. «Η Σμύρνη είναι μια πόλη σύμβολο του κοσμοπολιτισμού και του εμπορίου, της αδελφοσύνης στο Αιγαίο, της διαφορετικότητας.

Τα τρένα κουβαλούσαν πτώματα. Ο πατέρας μου σκέφτηκε να πάρει την οικογένεια του και να φύγουμε μακριά από τη Σμύρνη.”
