Το σχολικό κινούνταν χωρίς επιβάτες από το Τσαΐρι με κατεύθυνση το αεροδρόμιο, όταν ξέφυγε από την πορεία του και πέρασε στο αντίθετο ρεύμα κυκλοφορίας. Το λεωφορείο με τον οδηγό, σύμφωνα με τη rodiaki, κατέληξε σε ρέμα με καλαμιές, βάθους τουλάχιστον τριών μέτρων.
Διασώστες του ΕΚΑΒ σε συνεργασία με έξι άνδρες της Πυροσβεστικής Υπηρεσίας Ρόδου, δίνουν μάχη αυτή την ώρα για να βγάλουν από το λεωφορείο τον οδηγό, ο οποίος είχε τις αισθήσεις του, αλλά τραυματίστηκε στα πόδια.
