Ορατή στην Ελλάδα η πρώτη βροχή από «πεφταστέρια» της άνοιξης
Οι πτώσεις των συγκεκριμένων διαττόντων αστέρων θα αποκορυφωθούν το βράδυ της Παρασκευής 22 Απριλίου και τα χαράματα του Σαββάτου 23 Απριλίου, εφόσον ο καιρός επιτρέψει τις νυχτερινές παρατηρήσεις.
Δυστυχώς όμως, επειδή την ακριβώς προηγούμενη μέρα, την Πέμπτη, θα υπάρξει πανσέληνος, ο ουρανός δεν θα είναι αρκετά σκοτεινός και κατάλληλος για παρατήρηση.
Στο αποκορύφωμα του φαινομένου εκτιμάται ότι εισέρχονται στη γήινη ατμόσφαιρα και πυρακτώνονται έως 20 μετέωρα ανά ώρα με ταχύτητα έως 50 χιλιομέτρων. Οι Λυρίδες μερικές φορές μάλιστα δημιουργούν φωτεινά πεφταστέρια με μακριές ουρές, οι οποίες παραμένουν ορατές στον ουρανό επί αρκετά δευτερόλεπτα. Κάποιες χρονιές, τα «πεφταστέρια» τους έφθασαν ακόμη και τα 100 ανά ώρα.
