Τον Ιανουάριο του 2016 οι λιμενικοί της Θεσσαλονίκης συνέλαβαν έναν εισαγωγέα “αρωματικών ποτ-πουρί” και έναν ιδιοκτήτη ψιλικατζίδικου που τα πουλούσε στο κατάστημά του στην Ανατολική Θεσσαλονίκη. Συνολικά κατασχέθηκαν 230 συσκευασίες του ενός γραμμαρίου. Ο συλληφθείς εισαγωγέας ισχυρίστηκε στην κατάθεσή του ότι εισήγαγε απόλυτα νόμιμα και με όλα τα παραστατικά τα προϊόντα από την Ισπανία και πως είχε υιοθετήσει τις συστάσεις του Εθνικού Οργανισμού Φαρμάκων, σύμφωνα με τις οποίες οι συσκευασίες πρέπει να αναγράφουν ότι “η ουσία δεν καπνίζεται γιατί είναι επικίνδυνη”.
Την επιγραφή αυτή φέρουν σχεδόν όλα τα φανταχτερά φακελάκια ανεξαρτήτως προέλευσης. Η παραγωγή τους γίνεται κυρίως στην Κεντρική Ευρώπη και την Κίνα, αν και οι παλιότεροι αστυνομικοί της Δίωξης Ναρκωτικών στην Αθήνα θυμούνται μια υπόθεση που είχαν αποκαλύψει στην οποία τα υποκατάστατα συνθετικά κάνναβης παρασκευάζονταν από Ισραηλινό χημικό σε πρόχειρα εργοστάσια στη γειτονική Βουλγαρία.
Οι χημικοί χρησιμοποιούν ως πρώτη ύλη αποξηραμένα βότανα, τα οποία ψεκάζουν με επικίνδυνες συνθετικές ουσίες. Στη Σουηδία τα “legal drugs” σαρώνουν τις νεαρές ηλικίες και υπολογίζεται ότι μόνο το 2014, χρονιά κατά την οποία καταγράφηκε έξαρση, έχασαν τη ζωή τους 300 άνθρωποι. Η δεύτερη χώρα με τη μεγαλύτερη χρήση είναι η Ρωσία.
