Η Τουρκία σε μια μυστική επιχείρηση μετέφερε 42 Γερμανικά Leopard-2A4 στην Κυθρέα στο βόρειο τμήμα της Κύπρου, σύμφωνα με έκθεση της ειδησεογραφικής ιστοσελίδας Tovima.gr.
Τα τεθωρακισμένα και τα πυρομαχικά τους μεταφέρθηκαν από την τουρκική πόλη της Ανδριανούπολης με φορτηγό πλοίο.
Η έκθεση αναφέρει ότι τα τεθωρακισμένα ανήκουν στήν 1η Στρατιά (Birinci Ordu), όπου διατηρούνται όλα τα τεθωρακισμένα του τουρκικού στρατού με βλήματα 120 mm στην περιοχή του Έβρου
Σύμφωνα με την έκθεση, το Κογκρέσο των ΗΠΑ και η γερμανική κυβέρνηση έχουν απαγορεύσει τη μεταφορά στην Κύπρο οπλικών συστημάτων που έχουν κατασκευάσει.
Ωστόσο, η Άγκυρα χρησιμοποιεί συστηματικά όπλα που κατασκευάζονται από την Αμερική.
Η μεταφορά των Leopard-2A4 από τις τουρκικές δυνάμεις κατοχής παρατηρήθηκε από την κυβέρνηση της Κύπρου. Η έκθεση υπογραμμίζει ότι τα ευρωπαϊκά εξοπλιστικά – εν προκειμένω τα γερμανικά – χρησιμοποιούνται στην κατοχή του εδάφους της ΕΕ από μια τρίτη χώρα, δηλαδή από την Τουρκία.
