Πέντε αγόρια και ο πατέρας τους έχασαν τη ζωή τους σε πυρκαγιά που ξέσπασε νωρίς σήμερα το πρωί σε κατοικία στην πολιτεία Κουίνσλαντ της Αυστραλίας, ανακοίνωσε η αστυνομία.
Η μητέρα των αγοριών ξέφυγε σώα από την ιδιοκτησία στο Ράσελ Άιλαντ, μια μικρή κοινότητα περίπου 60 χιλιόμετρα νοτιοανατολικά του Μπρίσμπεϊν, δήλωσε ο αξιωματούχος της αστυνομίας Ματ Κέλι.
«Αυτή τη στιγμή είναι συναισθηματικά τρομερά συγκλονισμένη», είπε ο Κέλι στους δημοσιογράφους στη γειτονική πόλη Ρέντλαντ Μπέι, προσθέτοντας πως «η γυναίκα έχασε ολόκληρη την οικογένειά της».
Η Πυροσβεστική Υπηρεσία της Κουίνσλαντ ανακοίνωσε πως η κατοικία κατέρρευσε εξαιτίας της φωτιάς ενώ έχουν υποστεί ζημιές μερικές γειτονικές κατοικίες.
Διασώστες προσέφεραν επιτόπου τις πρώτες βοήθειες σε εννέα τραυματίες ενώ τρεις μεταφέρθηκαν στο νοσοκομείο, ανακοίνωσε η Υπηρεσία Ασθενοφόρων της Κουίνσλαντ. Τουλάχιστον 20 πυροσβέστες έσπευσαν για να κατασβέσουν την πυρκαγιά, μετέδωσε το αυστραλιανό δίκτυο ABC.
Διεξάγονται έρευνες για να διαπιστωθούν τα αίτια της πυρκαγιά, ενώ δεν υπάρχουν υποψίες για εμπρησμό, ανακοίνωσε η αστυνομία.
