Η πρόεδρος της αμερικανικής Βουλής των Αντιπροσώπων Νάνσι Πέλοζι γνωστοποίησε ότι συνομίλησε με τον αρχηγό των ενόπλων δυνάμεων των ΗΠΑ για τη λήψη προφυλάξεων για να διασφαλιστεί ότι ο Ρεπουμπλικάνος πρόεδρος Ντόναλντ Τραμπ δεν μπορεί να πυροδοτήσει εχθροπραξίες ή να διατάξει μια πυρηνική επίθεση στις εναπομείνασσες δύο εβδομάδες στο αξίωμά του.
«Η κατάσταση αυτού του ψυχικά ασταθή προέδρου δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι περισσότερο επικίνδυνη και πρέπει να κάνουμε ό,τι είναι δυνατό για να προστατεύσουμε τον αμερικανικό λαό από την ανισόρροπη επίθεσή του στη χώρα μας και τη δημοκρατία μας», δήλωσε η Πελόζι σε επιστολή της προς τους βουλευτές.
