Σύμφωνα με το CCTV, η έκρηξη σημειώθηκε γύρω στις 7.00 π.μ. τοπική ώρα (02:00 ώρα Ελλάδας). Φλόγες και λευκός καπνός αναφέρθηκε να υψώνονται από το σημείο.
Η Τιαντζίν είναι σημαντικό λιμάνι και πετροχημικό κέντρο βορειοανατολικά του Πεκίνου,οπου την Τετάρτη(12/8) σημειώθηκαν δυο μεγάλες εκρήξεις με αποτέλεσμα να χάσουν την ζωή τους περισσότεροι απο 112 ανθρώπους και δεκάδες ακόμα να αγνοούνται.
Περίπου 720 άλλοι νοσηλεύονται, περιλαμβανομένων 25 που έχουν τραυματιστεί σοβαρά και 33 των οποίων η κατάσταση θεωρείται κρίσιμη.
Δεκάδες συγγενείς των αγνοουμένων και τους κατοίκους της περιοχής λένε ότι δεν έχουν λάβει επαρκείς πληροφορίες από την κυβέρνηση σχετικά με το τι χημικές ουσίες που βρίσκονται στο χώρο .
