Συναγερμός σήμανε την Πέμπτης στις αρμόδιες περιοχές για μαζικό εκβρασμό φαλαινοειδών(ζιφιοί) από την θάλασσα στην νότια Κρήτη.
Κάτοικοι και επισκέπτες, ήρθαν αρχικά αντιμέτωποι με ένα θλιβερό θέαμα καθώς στην ακτή του Κερατόκαμπου αντίκρισαν ένα νεκρό φαλαινοειδές που είχε εκβράσει η θάλασσα.
Οι κάτοικοι αλλά και μέλη του Πολιτιστικού Συλλόγου Κερατοκάμπου-Καψαλών «Η Βίγλα» έσπευσαν να ενημερώσουν τις Αρχές αλλά και το Ενυδρείο Κρήτης.
Ο διευθυντής του Ενυδρείου, Δρ. Ιωάννης Παπαδάκης, ανέφερε πως το θέμα δεν εμπίπτει στην αρμοδιότητα του Ενυδρείου και έτσι, οι επιστήμονες ήρθαν σε επαφή με τον οργανισμό «ΑΡΙΩΝ».
Σύμφωνα με τα όσα ανέφερε εκπρόσωπος του Οργανισμού, πρόκειται συνολικά για 3 κητώδη, 2 νεκρά και ένα ζωντανό για το οποίο στήνεται επιχείρηση με επιστήμονες και κτηνίατρο προκειμένου να διαπιστώσουν τι έχει συμβεί.
Όλα σημειώθηκαν στη Νότια Κρήτη, και συγκριμένα στην περιοχή ανάμεσα στα Τέρτσα και τον Μύρτο.
Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι η αντίδραση του Δήμου Βιάννου σχετικά με την ανάσυρση και την ταφή της φάλαινας που εκβράστηκε στον Κερατόκαμπο ήταν άμεση καθώς το τεράστιο θαλάσσιο κήτος μήκους 6 μέτρων οδηγήθηκε σε ειδικό λάκκο όπου επιχωματώθηκε. Για τη ανάσυρση της δεύτερης φάλαιναςπου εκβράστηκε στην περιοχή «Καλικοβρέχτης» έχει επιληφθεί ο Δήμος Ιεράπετρας.
