Το κοινοβούλιο της Πορτογαλίας απέρριψε την Τρίτη πρόταση εμπιστοσύνης προς την κεντροδεξιά κυβέρνηση μειοψηφίας, προκαλώντας την κατάρρευσή της μετά από μόλις 11 μήνες θητείας, η οποία είναι πιθανό να προκαλέσει πρόωρες εκλογές, τις τρίτες στη χώρα μέσα σε μόλις τρία χρόνια.
Οι βουλευτές με ψήφους 142 κατά και 88 υπέρ, απέρριψαν την πρόταση που υπέβαλε την περασμένη Πέμπτη ο πρωθυπουργός Λουίς Μοντενέγκρο, αφού η αντιπολίτευση αμφισβήτησε την ακεραιότητά του σχετικά με τις συναλλαγές εταιρείας συμβούλων που ίδρυσε και την οποία διευθύνουν τώρα οι γιοι του. Η κυβέρνηση του Μοντενέγκρο αναλαμβάνει πλέον υπηρεσιακό ρόλο.
Ο πρόεδρος της χώρας Μαρσέλο Ρεμπέλο ντε Σόουζα αναμένεται να προκηρύξει νέες βουλευτικές εκλογές μετά από έναν γύρο διαβουλεύσεων που είναι πιθανό να διεξαχθούν τις επόμενες ημέρες. Ο ίδιος δήλωσε ότι μια νέα ψηφοφορία θα μπορούσε να διεξαχθεί στα μέσα Μαΐου.
