Το πρώτο κρούσμα του στελέχους clade I της mpox (ευλογιά των πιθήκων) στη χώρα ανακοίνωσε ο Καναδάς.
Η Υπηρεσία Δημόσιας Υγείας του Καναδά (PHAC) ανέφερε ότι αυτό το κρούσμα εντοπίστηκε στη Μανιτόμπα και σχετίζεται με ταξίδι. Συνδέεται δε με τη συνεχιζόμενη επιδημία του clade I της mpox στην κεντρική και την ανατολική Αφρική.
«Το πρόσωπο αυτό ζήτησε ιατρική περίθαλψη για συμπτώματα της mpox στον Καναδά λίγο μετά την επιστροφή του και βρίσκεται την τρέχουσα περίοδο σε απομόνωση», σημειώνει η υπηρεσία.
«H PHAC συνεργάζεται στενά με τις αρχές δημόσιας υγείας στην Μανιτόμπα. Το Εθνικό Μικροβιολογικό Εργαστήριο (NML) ενημέρωσε την επαρχία αυτή στις 22 Νοεμβρίου ότι το δείγμα ήταν θετικό στο clade Ib της mpox», προσθέτει.
Ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας (ΠΟΥ) είχε ανακοινώσει νωρίτερα χθες ότι η επιδημία της mpox συνεχίζει να αποτελεί έκτακτη ανάγκη για τη δημόσια υγεία.
Τον Αύγουστο ο ΠΟΥ κήρυξε σχετικά με την mpox, που προηγουμένως ήταν γνωστή με την ονομασία ευλογιά των πιθήκων, έκτακτη ανάγκη παγκοσμίου ενδιαφέροντος για τη δημόσια υγεία για δεύτερη φορά σε δύο χρόνια, αφού νέο παραλλαγμένο στέλεχος του ιού, που ονομάστηκε clade Ib, εξαπλώθηκε από τη Λαϊκή Δημοκρατία του Κονγκό σε γειτονικές χώρες.
