Το αμερικανικό τηλεοπτικό κανάλι CBS έδειξε έναν χάρτη της Ουκρανίας χωρίς τη χερσόνησο της Κριμαίας. Άλλες περιοχές που προσάρτησε η Ρωσία εμφανίζονταν στον χάρτη ως μέρος της Ουκρανίας.
Η κάρτα εμφανίστηκε στον αέρα κατά τη διάρκεια της εκπομπής «Late Show with Stephen Colbert» στις 9 Σεπτεμβρίου, αλλά δεν τράβηξε την προσοχή εκείνη την ημέρα.
Σε ένα απόσπασμα για τον εορτασμό της 10ης επετείου της παρουσίασης της εκπομπής, ο διάσημος Αμερικανός παρουσιαστής Stephen Colbert αναφέρθηκε στα γεγονότα που διαμόρφωσαν τη ζωή των Αμερικανών από το 2015. Ένα μέρος του προγράμματος επικεντρώθηκε στην Ουκρανία, τονίζοντας τον ηρωισμό των Ουκρανών στην αντίσταση στη ρωσική επιθετικότητα.
Το βίντεο στο YouTube έχει λάβει πάνω από 230.000 προβολές σε μια εβδομάδα και παρόμοιο αριθμό σχολίων. Κάποιοι στα σχόλια επεσήμαναν τον προβληματικό χάρτη που δείχνει την Κριμαία ως ρωσική.
Δεν είναι η πρώτη φορά που τα δυτικά μέσα ενημέρωσης δημοσιεύουν χάρτη που δείχνει την Κριμαία ως μέρος της Ρωσίας. Για παράδειγμα, οι British Times ζήτησαν συγγνώμη το 2018 για τη δημοσίευση ενός χάρτη που έδειχνε την Κριμαία ως ρωσικό έδαφος.
