Το μέλλον της παράδοσης προϊόντων είναι ήδη εδώ. Η Amazon έχει αρχίσει να παραδίδει προϊόντα με αυτόνομο ρομποτικό μηχάνημα στην επαρχία Snohomish στις ΗΠΑ.
Το Amazon Scout, όπως ονομάζεται το ρομποτικό όχημα, είναι σχεδιασμένο να λειτουργεί αυτόνομα και να παραδίδει με ασφάλεια τις παραγγελίες. Έχει το μέγεθος ενός μικρού ψυγείου και κινείται στα πεζοδρόμια με την ταχύτητα ενός πεζού. Η συσκευή είναι εφοδιασμένη με αισθητήρες που τις επιτρέπουν να αποφεύγει τη σύγκρουση με αντικείμενα αλλά και τους πεζούς.
Για αρχή η Amazon χρησιμοποιεί έξι συσκευές Scout, παραδίδοντας πακέτα από Δευτέρα έως Παρασκευή, κατά τη διάρκεια της ημέρας. Οι συσκευές ακολουθούν αυτόνομα τη διαδρομή αποστολής τους, αλλά αρχικά θα συνοδεύονται από έναν υπάλληλο της Amazon. Το Amazon Scout αναπτύχθηκε στο εργαστήριο έρευνας και ανάπτυξης της εταιρείας στο Σιάτλ, εξασφαλίζοντας ότι οι συσκευές μπορούν να περιηγηθούν με ασφάλεια και αποτελεσματικότητα ανάμεσα σε κατοικίδια, ζώα, πεζούς και οποιοδήποτε άλλο εμπόδιο στην πορεία τους.

Άλλες εταιρείες αναπτύσσουν αντίστοιχες λύσεις οι οποίες προβλέπεται πολύ σύντομα να κυριαρχήσουν με ότι αυτό συνεπάγεται για την αγορά εργασίας. Στις ΗΠΑ πάντως το κοινό φαίνεται να αντιμετωπίζει θετικά την εξέλιξη.
