O πρώην διοικητής της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδος «έφυγε» σε ηλικία 74 ετών
Πέθανε ο Γιώργος Προβόπουλος, πρώην διοικητής της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδος σε ηλικία 74 ετών.
Ο Γιώργος Προβόπουλος ήταν οικονομολόγος, πανεπιστημιακός και τραπεζίτης. Διετέλεσε διοικητής της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδος από τις 20 Ιουνίου 2008 έως τις 20 Ιουνίου 2014.
Οι σημαντικότεροι σταθμοί της ζωής του
Επί κυβέρνησης Κωνσταντίνου Μητσοτάκη (1990-1993) διετέλεσε υποδιοικητής της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδο καθώς και πρόεδρος του Συμβουλίου Οικονομικών Εμπειρογνωμόνων.
Η μετάβαση στον ιδιωτικό τομέα
Το 1993 ο Γιώργος Προβόπουλος μεταπήδησε στον ιδιωτικό τομέα, και εργάστηκε ως οικονομικός σύμβουλος στην Alpha Bank. Το 2004 είχε πολύ σημαντικό ρόλο στη συγγραφή του κυβερνητικού προγράμματος της Νέας Δημοκρατίας στον τομέα της οικονομίας. Την ίδια χρονιά τοποθετήθηκε στη διοίκηση της Εμπορικής Τράπεζας από τον Κώστα Καραμανλή και στη συνέχεια επέβλεψε την πώλησή της στους Γάλλους της Credit Αgricole.
Μεταξύ 2006 και 2008 υπήρξε αντιπρόεδρος και διευθύνων σύμβουλος της Τράπεζας Πειραιώς.
Τον Ιούνιο του 2008 έληξε η εξαετής θητεία του διοικητή της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδος Νίκου Γκαργκάνα, που είχε επιλεγεί το 2002 από την προηγούμενη κυβέρνηση του ΠΑΣΟΚ, και ο Γιώργος Προβόπουλος διορίστηκε διοικητής της ΤτΕ με απόφαση της κυβέρνησης Καραμανλή.
Η θητεία του έληξε το 2014 και τον διαδέχθηκε ο Γιάννης Στουρνάρας.
