Σεισμική δόνηση 6,7 βαθμών σημειώθηκε νότια της πρωτεύουσας των Φιλιππίνων, της Μανίλας, στις 4:49 (τοπική ώρα) ξημερώματα Σαββάτου.
Το Ινστιτούτο Ηφαιστειολογίας και Σεισμολογίας των Φιλιππίνων εντοπίζει το επίκεντρο του σεισμού 16 χιλιόμετρα νοτιοδυτικά του Calatagan, Batangas. Είχε βάθος 116 χιλιομέτρων, ήταν τεκτονικής προέλευσης και κράτησε ένα λεπτό!
Λίγα λεπτά αργότερα (στις 4:57) καταγράφηκε νέα σεισμική δόνηση 5,1 Ρίχτερ με βάθος 107 χιλιομέτρων, με τους σεισμολόγους να προειδοποιούν ότι θα ακολουθήσουν και ισχυροί μετασεισμοί.
