Ο κεντρικός πυρηνικός σταθμός Doel 1 στο Beveren στο Βέλγιο τέθηκε εκτός λειτουργίας τη Δευτέρα με απρόοπτο τρόπο προκειμένου να επιτελεστούν έργα συντήρησης στο κύκλωμα ψύξης.
Κι ενώ όφειλε να γίνει η επανεκκίνηση του αντιδραστήρα την Τρίτη αυτός είναι πάντα εκτός λειτουργίας ως και σήμερα Σάββατο γιατί μια διαρροή ανιχνεύθηκε στον πυρηνικό τομέα αναφέρει το RTBF. Engie Electrabel ανακοίνωσε στην τοπική τηλεόραση TV Oost ότι παρατηρήθηκε αυτή διαρροή κατ΄αυτήν την επιθεώρηση.
Το επίπεδο της ραδιενέργειας είναι ειδικότερα υψηλό σε αυτή τη ζώνη του σταθμού κάτι που καθιστά δύσκολη την επιδιόρθωσή του.
Σύμφωνα με το τοπικό κανάλι TV Oost δεν υπάρχει συγκεκριμένη οδηγία για τους κατοίκους της περιοχής αλλά σύμφωνα με αναρτήσεις στα social media έχουν ανοίξει καταφύγια σε περίπτωση ανάγκης.
Η επισκευή είναι ιδιαίτερα δύσκολη επειδή η ραδιενεργή ακτινοβολία σε αυτό το τμήμα του εργοστασίου είναι πολύ μεγάλη.
