Εντυπωσιακό φαινόμενο εντοπίστηκε να συντελείται στα σύνορα του πλανήτη μας
Μια ιδιαίτερα ενδιαφέρουσα ανακάλυψη έκανε η Κλίο Λόι, φοιτήτρια της Σχολής Αστροφυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου του Σίδνει και του κέντρου αστροφυσικής CAASTRO. Εντόπισε την παρουσία γιγάντιων δομών που μοιάζουν με σωλήνες να περικυκλώνουν τη Γη.
Οι σωλήνες αυτοί δημιουργούνται από φορτισμένα σωματίδια του Ηλιου (πλάσμα) σε απόσταση 600 χλμ από την επιφάνεια του πλανήτη μας. Η Λόι κατάφερε μάλιστα να χαρτογραφήσει τρισδιάστατα αυτές τις δομές και να καταγράψει την κίνηση τους.
Η ύπαρξη των συγκεκριμένων δομών είχε προταθεί στο παρελθόν αλλά κανείς μέχρι σήμερα δεν είχε καταφέρει να βρει στοιχεία που να υποδεικνύουν κάτι για τη φύση τους. Η ανακάλυψη είναι σημαντική γιατί αποκαλύπτει νέα δεδομένα για την αλληλεπίδραση της Γης με τον Ηλιο και τα φαινόμενα που παράγονται.
