Για ακόμη μια χρονιά εντύπωση προκαλεί στο Αιτωλικό και συγκεκριμένα στην ανατολική παραλία της λιμνοθάλασσας το τεράστιο πέπλο από αράχνες που έχει καλύψει τα φυτά σε μήκος 300 μέτρων.
Επανήλθαν και φέτος στην περιοχή οι απόκοσμες εικόνες του 2018 που είχαν τραβήξει το ενδιαφέρον μέσων ενημέρωσης από όλον τον πλανήτη.
Πρόκειται για ένα εποχικό φαινόμενο, το οποίο κυρίως εμφανίζεται αυτή την περίοδο, δηλαδή στο τέλος του καλοκαιριού και στις αρχές του Φθινοπώρου, και προκαλείται από τις αράχνες του γένους Tetragnatha.
Ο Φορέας Διαχείρισης Λιμνοθάλασσας Μεσολογγίου-Ακαρνικών Ορέων είχε εξηγήσει πως «το φαινόμενο της σκνίπας ακολουθήθηκε με φυσικό τρόπο από το φαινόμενο υπερανάπτυξης πληθυσμών αραχνών, που έπλεξαν ιστούς σε κάθε δυνατή επιφάνεια κοντά στις περιοχές πτήσης των σκνιπών και τούτο προφανώς λόγω της μεγάλης διαθεσιμότητας τροφής για τις αράχνες. Το πιο πρόσφατο υπόβαθρο για τους ιστούς τους ήταν παρόχθια μικρά δέντρα και θάμνοι».
Αναμένεται ότι όταν θα πέσουν οι θερμοκρασίες και θα μειωθεί η αναπαραγωγή της σκνίπας θα εκλείψουν βαθμιαία και οι αράχνες και οι ιστοί τους θα ξεπλυθούν μετά από τις πρώτες δυνατές βροχές.
