Έκταση δεκαπλάσια του Μανχάταν καίει η φωτιά στον Καναδά
Το καταστροφικό της έργο συνεχίζει η γιγάντια φωτιά που καίει από την Κυριακή στον Καναδά και προκάλεσε εκκένωση της πόλης Φορτ Μακ Μέρεϊ στην επαρχία Αλμπέρτα. Μέσα σε ένα 24ωρο εξαπλώθηκε αστραπιαία σε σχεδόν δεκαπλάσια έκταση με αποτέλεσμα όσοι είχαν καταφύγει σε κατασκηνώσεις και καταφύγια στα βόρεια της πόλης να αποκοπούν.
Η φωτιά, που μαίνεται ανεξέλεγκτη, έχει καταστρέψει ολόκληρες γειτονιές του Φορτ Μακ Μέρεϊ στην καρδιά της καναδικής παραγωγής ενέργειας και ορισμένα διυλιστήρια αναγκάστηκαν να προχωρήσουν σε προληπτική παύση λειτουργίας, ωθώντας τις παγκόσμιες τιμές του πετρελαίου προς τα πάνω.
Τρεις μέρες μετά τη διαταγή οι κάτοικοι του Φορτ Μακ Μέρεϊ,να εγκαταλείψουν τα σπίτια τους, οι πυροσβέστες συνέχιζαν τη μάχη τους να προστατέψουν σπίτια, επιχειρήσεις και άλλα οικοδομήματα από τις φλόγες. Πάνω από 1.600 κτίρια, μεταξύ άλλων και εκατοντάδες σπίτια, έχουν καταστραφεί.
