Η Ρωσία αποκλείστηκε από τους Ολυμπιακούς αγώνες το Τόκιο, μετά από την απόφαση του παγκόσμιου οργανισμού για την καταπολέμηση του ντόπινγκ (WADA), ο οποίος υποστήριξε πως δεν είναι έγκυρα τα δεδομένα από τους ελέγχους, που διαβίβασε το εργαστήριο της Μόσχας, προκειμένου να ριχτεί φως στο διεφθαρμένο σύστημα ντόπινγκ, που ξέσπασε στη χώρα μεταξύ 2011 και 2015.
Ο WADA ανακοίνωσε ότι η ρωσική υπηρεσία κατά του ντόπινγκ (Rusada) δεν συμμορφώθηκε με τις υποδείξεις, όσον αφορά τα στοιχεία που δίνουν τα εργαστήριά της, και έτσι η χώρα τιμωρείται με αποκλεισμό από φιλοξενία αθλητικών γεγονότων για τέσσερα χρόνια, όπως σχετικά μετέδωσε το ρωσικό πρακτορείο ειδήσεων «TASS».
