Μια «ασθενή» σεισμική δόνηση, μεγέθους 4,6 βαθμών της κλίμακας Ρίχτερ, κατέγραψαν οι σεισμογράφοι στο Ιόνιο πέλαγος τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες σήμερα, γνωστοποίησε το Γεωδυναμικό Ινστιτούτο του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών εκ μέρους των τεσσάρων φορέων συγκρότησης του Εθνικού Σεισμολογικού Δικτύου.
Όπως διευκρινίζεται σε ανακοίνωση του Ινστιτούτου, ο σεισμός, ο οποίος σημειώθηκε στις 03:41, είχε επίκεντρο περιοχή στον θαλάσσιο χώρο 48 χιλιόμετρα νότια της Ζακύνθου και 267 χλμ. δυτικά-νοτιοδυτικά της Αθήνας.
Η Ζάκυνθος δοκιμάστηκε την 26η Οκτωβρίου από μια ισχυρή σεισμική δόνηση μεγέθους 6,4 βαθμών της κλίμακας Ρίχτερ, η οποία πάντως είχε προκαλέσει μόνο υλικές ζημιές. Έκτοτε, η σεισμική δραστηριότητα στο Ιόνιο πέλαγος είναι συχνή.
Βάσει απόφασης του υφυπουργού Οικονομίας Στάθη Γιαννακίδη τη 19η Δεκεμβρίου, πρόκειται να διατεθεί κονδύλι 15,8 εκατ. ευρώ από το Πρόγραμμα Δημοσίων Επενδύσεων για «την αντιμετώπιση των επιπτώσεων στις δημόσιες υποδομές από τον σεισμό» αυτόν στη Ζάκυνθο και στο σύμπλεγμα των νήσων Στροφάδων.
