Την αντίδραση της Κύπρου σε νομικό επίπεδο προετοιμάζει το κυπριακό ΥΠΕΞ, στην περίπτωση καθόδου στην κυπριακή ΑΟΖ του τουρκικού ερευνητικού σκάφους Μπαρμπαρός.
Ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών Ιωάννης Κασουλίδης ανέφερε ενώπιον της κοινοβουλευτικής επιτροπής Οικονομικών ότι σε αντίθεση με την προηγούμενη φορά, η Νομική Υπηρεσία σε συνεργασία με ξένο οίκο, ετοίμασε σενάρια νομικής αντίδρασης σε ενδεχόμενη νέα παραβίαση της κυπριακής ΑΟΖ.
Απαντώντας σε ερώτηση σε σχέση με την αμφισβήτηση της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, ο κ. Κασουλίδης είπε, ότι η Τουρκία προβαίνει σε διάφορες ενέργειες προς αυτήν την κατεύθυνση, για 43 χρόνια, χωρίς αποτέλεσμα.
Πρόσθεσε ότι ολόκληρη η στρατηγική του υπουργείου Εξωτερικών αφορά αυτό το θέμα, δηλαδή την προάσπιση των συμφερόντων της κρατικής υπόστασης και της κυριαρχίας της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας.
