Πλησιάζει η ώρα που ο αστεροειδής με την κωδική ονομασία 2012 DA14 θα βρεθεί “μία τρίχα” για τα δεδομένα του διαστήματος, μακριά από την Γη: Στις 16 Φεβρουαρίου 2013 θα περάσει τόσο κοντά από την Γη που θα επηρεάσει τους δορυφόρους τηλεπικοινωνιών που βρίσκονται σε τροχιά γύρω της.
Η ανακάλυψη του αστεροειδούς είχε προκαλέσει πέρσι ανησυχία, καθώς δεν γνώριζαν την ακριβή τροχιά. Ένα χρόνο μετά οι ίδιοι επιστήμονες λένε πως η βαρυτική έλξη της Γης θα μπορούσε να επηρεαστεί ανάλογα με το πόσο κοντά στον πλανήτη θα βρεθεί το ουράνιο σώμα.
Η πρόβλεψη πάντως μιλάει για απόσταση κοντινότερη από αυτή μεταξύ Γης-Σελήνης και για το λόγο αυτό το φαινόμενο μελετάται αναλυτικά.

One AU is the average distance of the Earth from the sun (or like 149,597,870 km) so of course when the asteroid gets close to the Earth they can't always us AU as a distance anymore. 6.0E-4 AU ends up somewhere around 89 759km, sill pretty far but close enough so that people might be able to maybe see it with a telescope or binoculars. 🙂 Hope that eases your fears of Earth being hit.
